Hi, I’M DR. MAX!

After struggling to meet the needs of everyone else and stress eating led to major surgery in 2012, I decided it was time to take care of ME!

AND SO THE JOURNEY TO A LESS STRESSFUL AND MORE BALANCED LIFE BEGAN

I prioritized my health, implemented a self-care regimen, and began to feel tangible results within a month. For the first time in my life, I felt good about prioritizing self-care and I recognized the impact my new lifestyle was having on my mindset, empowerment, and my life.
I LOVED THE NEW ME!

So, Who is Dr. F. Maxine Fantroy-Ford?

Hello there, my name is Dr. Fantroy-Ford, and I want to share my story with you. I spent 35 years as a teacher and administrator in the City School District of Albany before retiring in 2012. Post-retirement, I had the opportunity to serve in various educational positions at the local and state levels. As an interim and substitute principal, adjunct professor, independent evaluator, coach, and mentor to new administrators, I gained a wealth of experience and knowledge.

My years as a school turnaround administrator, working with principals and teachers in low-performing schools to implement restructuring plans, led me to start my consulting business, CoreInspiration Consulting, Inc. I am passionate about education and equity, and I believe that every student deserves a chance to succeed. Eventually, my passion for education and helping others took a toll on my own well being…

What Led Me Here?

Being an educator, mother and wife consumed my life. From the role of a teacher to administrator I lost myself in taking care of others, my family, the students and their families, and the faculty. My self-care was not a priority.  I never exercised because I was attending meetings or just too plain tired. Although I always had a sense of style and dressed fashionably, I did not like the way I looked. My weight was increasing and eventually would have an adverse effect on my health. There were always excuses as to why I was neglecting “Me”. The demands of being a principal, the activities that my son was involved in that I refused to miss, and the never-ending problems that needed solutions started to weigh me down emotionally. Trying to be superwoman was gradually disintegrating.

As the weight loss roller coaster kept moving, it finally came to an abrupt stop when I had to have a stent inserted in my artery at 58. This was my wake-up call. I was instructed to begin an aspirin regimen and walk one hour every day. My first attempt at walking that distance was not easy. I huffed and puffed after a few steps.  I contacted my doctor because I started to believe that something was wrong. He assured me that I was fine, and just needed to gradually increase my distance. I thought walking through the halls at my elementary school was enough exercise.

Prior to my surgery, I struggled with eating late at night (after work meetings), snacking, and not exercising. For an entire year, I pushed myself to walk until I was able to go around the entire perimeter of the university campus.

Over the years, I added spin cycling, weightlifting classes, and bike riding. After weighing in at 272, I eventually lost 100 pounds. I had to change my mindset. I finally understood what self-care looked and felt like. The secret to maintaining a healthy, emotionally, and physically well-balanced life was to make self-care non-negotiable.   It didn’t happen overnight. Did I have moments of relapse? Yes, but I kept walking and exercising, keeping my “Me Time” sacred, preparing and eating healthy, reading from my list of personal 100 affirmations, and finding solitude and positivity in meditating.

“A TRUE INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER”

Dr. Ford was an incredible mentor to me during my first year as a Principal.  Her expertise in instruction, administration, and leadership, provided me with a great pathway to begin my work.  I regularly recall her actions and messages. They helped guide me in my daily work.  Dr. Ford is wise, relentless, and tenacious.

CONQUER STRESS, AVOID BURNOUT, AND REACH YOUR POTENTIAL WITH MY SIGNATURE SELF-CARE STRATEGIES EmpowerED and AIM WELLNESS PROGRAM

…EmpowerED…

  • 1. IDENTIFY

Before moving forward, you have to identify where you are. During this phase we will assess your current self-care routine by completing a self assessment to identify areas where you may be neglecting yourself as well as thoughts or mindsets that have trapped you in to believing that your self-care is not important. We’ll not only identify where you are, but we’ll also discuss what you want to achieve.

  • 2. CUSTOMIZED REGIMEN

Most people understand what needs to be done, but don’t have a plan to achieve the goals they set. After we complete the assessment phase, we will work with you to build a personalized self-care regimen to help you reach your goals. This may include exercises and breathing techniques, incorporating healthy meals and sleep hygiene, or implementing a new wardrobe to help you feel better about your presentation.

  • 3. TRACK PROGRESS

Tracking your progress helps you identify quick wins and areas of opportunity. Once you have a customized plan, I'll set up a weekly tracker for you to chart your self-care activities and results. We'll discuss what nurtures your well-being and I’ll introduce customized positive affirmations to keep you encouraged and motivated in the process.

AIM WELLNESS PROGRAM

  • The AIM Wellness Program is a research-based curriculum designed for individuals of all ages. The Wellness Program was originally created to address student-athletes in grades 4-12 who desired to elevate their performance both in the classroom and in competition. The co-authors of the program further developed the modules to include interactive lessons for general education students in grades K-12, young adults (19-30) and adults ( 30-49; 50+). Lessons maybe taught in a groups or individual format.

  • Throughout the program all participants are provided a toolbox of strategies to address health and wellness, social emotional needs, and the pivotal stages in life. The lessons for each modules are interactive and focus on breathing and muscle relaxation techniques, personalized visual imagery and self-talk scripts, food literacy, wellness and exercise, and establishing healthy relationships.

  • Many of the issues related to performance often transfer over into all areas of an individual’s life, in the form of anxiety, poor sleeping habits, inability to self-regulate, lack of discipline, a struggle to identify and set goals, and poor eating habits. We are pleased to present three modules that consist of a total of nine interactive lessons. Lessons range from 25 to 45 minutes.

    ·   Module 1: Muscle Relaxation, Breathing Techniques and Self-Imagery

    ·   Module 2: Health and Wellness

    ·  Module 3A: Camaraderie (team building lessons and interactive activities for K-12)

    ·  Module 3B: Strategies for creating healthy relationships (Young adults and adults)
